Fate of Occupational Pensions in the Event of Death

When you die, the fate of your occupational (company) pension will depend on whether or not you've already retired, what type of scheme you're in (final salary or money purchase) and its rules. However, when you join an occupational scheme, you will normally be required to complete an 'expression of wish' form, which states who you'd like any lump sum benefits to be paid to, so it's important to amend this form if your circumstances change.

To check out the different rules for final salary (defined benefit) pension schemes and money purchase (defined contribution) pension schemes, select a scheme type from the following menu.
