The Over 80 Pension

The Over 80 Pension is a non-contributory pension for people aged 80 or over who have little or no State Pension. In 2009/2010, applicants who did not receive a Basic State Pension could claim a maximum of £57.05 a week; those who were on a reduced Basic State Pension could claim the difference between their Basic State Pension and the maximum Over 80 Pension. The maximum amount of Over 80 Pension is set at about 60% of the Basic State Pension.

Eligibility

The Over 80 Pension is available if :

  • You are aged 80 or over
  • You live in England, Scotland or Wales, and have done so for a total of 10 years or more in any continuous period of 20 years before or after your 80th birthday
  • You do not receive a full Basic State Pension because you have not paid enough National Insurance (NI) contributions. The amount you receive for your Basic State Pension must be less that the maximum payable by Over 80 Pension (£57.05 in 2009/10)
